We have a diverse parent body, with a wide variety of experience and talents. Parents are encouraged to use their skills wherever possible – whether giving talks to a class or school assembly, listening to children read (in English or Hebrew) and helping with special projects, at festivals, school shows or on trips. The school library was set up and is run by parents, and parents are heading up a new initiative to create a garden where the children can grow their own vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs, learn more about where food comes from, and gain a better understanding of the seasons and recycling. We also have a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Akiva, which organises a whole host of activities to raise funds for the school. This is a great way for parents to get to know each other and the teachers. The PTA is headed up by Lisa Wander, and has a number of current subcommittees, including:
Any parents wishing to get involved in the PTA should please contact Lisa Wander. |
