Akiva donates around £2,500 to good causes in 2009/10

This year we have donated about £2,500 to different charities - Thank You everyone!

During the summer term we supported Leket, an Israeli charity.

On Shavuot we learnt how Boaz, as we are taught in the Torah, left a small section of his field for those less fortunate to glean. This idea was the inspiration for Leket, which visits hotels and restaurants in Israel, collects left over food items and redistributes to people in need.

Thank you to everyone who contributed towards our total of £738.94.

Parent-doctors check up on Y4

Carmel Sher (Rosie's mum) and Andres Virchis (Jed's dad) are both doctors and recently visited the school.

Carmel came in one week to talk to the Year 4 class about bones and joints. The following week she came in to talk about the heart and muscles. The children loved the quizzes to earn table points, and enjoyed using her medical equipment.

Andres also came in to show a real human skeleton, which fascinated the children. They drew the bones — and are now experts at naming them.

Thank you so much to Dr Sher and Dr Virchis. They were fantastic and the class really learnt a lot!

Y6 Bet Midrash

23 Jun 2010 - Year 6 from Clore Shalom came and joined our year 6 for a day of informal Jewish learning. The theme was Israel and the children participated in a day that involved playing games, studying Jewish texts and creating short films. We were joined by Rabbis Shoshana Boyd-Gelfand, Michael Shire, Mark Goldsmith and Laura Janner-Klausner. We were also joined by Rina Wolfson from the Jewish Educators Network, Josh Martin with a group of madrichim (leaders) from RSY-Netzer, and Jonathan Zecharia from Hanoar. The children had a great day, spent time getting to know each other and created some fantastic films about the importance of Israel.
