Get involved

As a Jewish parent, the chances are that in days gone by, you might have been involved in a Jewish youth movement, your University J-SOC or a charity fundraising committee, but maybe it’s been a few years and you’re ready to get involved again. But whether or not you’ve done anything before, the PTA gives you a great opportunity to get involved and really help make a difference to the school and more importantly, the pupils. You don’t need any particular knowledge or skills and it doesn’t matter whether or not you know any of the other parents.

All you need is a bit of spare time and an interest in how you can help the school and we’ll give you the perfect platform to do whatever you can do. Whether you’re interested in helping with the library, the garden, the playground, the challah delivery or organising large or small events, there’s bound to be something which would benefit from a bit of your time.

Listed below are the areas where we’re currently looking for volunteers to help out:

  • Summer Fair (sponsorship, silent auction and Olympics contacts and general help)
  • Reception Shavuot party
  • Year 1 & 2 event / party
  • Year 5 event / party
  • Garden reps: This doesn’t need to be during school hours – so is a perfect job for a working parent. We need a few green fingered parents – ideally one per class – who are willing to help out in the school garden, getting it ready for our kids to enjoy
  • Library: The school has a fabulous fully stocked library; each class visits the library on a weekly basis and every child is able to borrow a book. The library is completely staffed by the parent body and we are always looking for more volunteers to help out. No previous experience is necessary but you will receive some training from us

If you’re interested in getting involved with any of these or if you have any particular different ideas about what you’d like to do, feel free to get in touch with the PTA Chair, Karen Horwitz (via the office) who’d love to talk to you about it.
